I was at the bank(shant name the organisation since its a sensitive topic) today. While waiting, could vividly heard a man(uncle investor) in his fifties speaking to the bank assistant(male). The content was about no interest given on his bond/annuities/retirements of $50000. The uncle investor sounded very firm and claimed to lodge a complain to the media if the bank could not give him a satisfy reply. I knew he wanted attention and agreements from the other customers as he deliberately raised his voice about having the media to publish this scandal and repeated it for a few times. Whenever the uncle investor mentioned the media, the bank assistant's face would go pale. Could almost see him breaking out in sweats despite the solid cooling aircon system. In my opinion, i do pity uncle investor as the 2 year interest/coupons he could obtain from the other banks was not going to be small. As an on-looker, i wont said the fault lies with banks as the investors should have understand and discuss the terms & conditions with the bank before investing or undertaking any bonds/annuities. I was on the grey era.

No one interrupts the conversation which went on for another around 5 mins. And just like everyone else in the bank, i was an audience of this "skit". In such an situation, everybody seemed to carry the whats-going-on attitude and was anticipating for more exciting content. Probably this is due to the legend Singaporean-attitude. I was wondering if the uncle investor is feeling awkward as things usually dont reflect good for the person who raised the voice. Yet, the uncle managed to remain compose and conveying his minimum requirements expected to the bank assistant. Everything do sound reasonable, boy.

While the bank was still handling this customer's matter at the back of the desk, the uncle turned to the people in the queue and started to complain. Out of her curiosity a lady asked the uncle what kinds of investment plan he undertook. Now this is it. It ignited a little discussion as the people in the bank started to response to the uncle's campaign. An uncle wearing a thick black rimmed spectacles behind me suddenly shout to the uncle(lead) in english "I support you to complain". I was quite surprised and a grin beamed across the uncle(lead)'s face; The-finally-somebody-agree-with-me achievement when people began to sing his tune. A little commotion went on in the queue & my dad did add in that with $50000, he could obtain at least a satisfiable interest than having zero interest.

In fact i was rather happy to see that there are voices who supported uncle investor who reasoned with the bank alone. I hope this exerts a substantial pressure on the bank who will continue to improve from this issue.
